A. 1 Samuel 16: 1 - 13
The Anointing: The prophet Samuel anointed the youngest shepherd son of Jesse as the future King of Israel, as God looks at the heart rather than outward appearance.
B. 1 Samuel 17: 41 - 51
Defeating Goliath: Armed with just a sling, stones, and faith, he defeated the Philistine giant Goliath, instantly becoming a national hero.
C. 1 Samuel 24
Sparing Saul: Twice David had the opportunity to assassinate a hunting, sleeping King Saul, but he spared his life, refusing to "harm the Lord's anointed”.
